CHIROPRACTIC CARE AND SCIATICA

Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve—which runs from the lower back through the hips, buttocks, and down the legs—becomes compressed or irritated. This leads to inflammation of the nerve, causing discomfort and mobility issues.

Symptoms of Sciatica

  • Sharp, shooting pain radiating from the lower back down to the buttocks and legs

  • Numbness, weakness, or tingling sensations in the leg

  • Pain that worsens when sitting, coughing, or sneezing

  • A burning or electric shock-like pain

  • In severe cases, leg weakness that makes movement difficult

  • In some individuals, sciatica pain may even present as knee pain

Herniated Disc – A slipped or bulging disc pressing on the nerve.

Spinal Stenosis – Narrowing of the spinal canal that compresses the sciatic nerve.

Piriformis Syndrome – A muscle in the buttock (piriformis) tightens due to injury, poor posture, or pelvic imbalances, pressing on the sciatic nerve.

Degenerative Disc Disease – Wear and tear on spinal discs that can contribute to nerve irritation.

Other Conditions – Joint or disc degeneration, arthritis, spondylolisthesis (slipped vertebra), lumbar stenosis, inflammatory conditions, and more can also trigger sciatic pain.

When the piriformis muscle becomes tight due to injury, poor posture, or pelvic dysfunction, it can compress the sciatic nerve, potentially leading to sciatica.

What causes Sciatica ?

Can Chiropractic care help?

  • Spinal Adjustments – Gentle chiropractic adjustments help realign the spine, reducing pressure on the sciatic nerve and promoting better function.

  • Muscle & Joint Therapy – Targeted techniques help release tight muscles, improve joint mobility, and reduce inflammation that may be contributing to sciatic pain.

  • Postural & Movement Correction – Chiropractors assess posture and biomechanics to address imbalances that may be aggravating the condition, helping to prevent future flare-ups.

  • Personalized Rehab Exercises – Strengthening and stretching exercises tailored to your condition can support spinal health and improve flexibility.
